In Kindle software 3.1, Amazon fixed all previous "jailbreak" methods. I use that term lightly, as the Kindle isn't the most secure platform. The method used is a space in the file name allows bypassing of signature checks. The jailbreak will install a folder in the USB root of your Kindle. In this folder, if you place in empty text file named "HACK_UPDATES" and restart, you can install custom updates found on the internet that allows things like custom screen savers and reverse USB tethering. If you place "AMAZON_UPDATES" in the folder and restart, you will be able to use and receive over the air Kindle updates from Amazon.
